Language Learning & Immigration forum w/Rep. Hecht

  • WHS Lecture Hall 50 Columbia Street Watertown, MA 02472 (map)

NOTE: This forum has been reschedule from 3/21 to 3/28 because Watertown Schools were closed on 3/21 due to snow.

Watertown High School's Youth Political Action Committee (YPAC) is sponsoring an exciting forum, "Language Learning and Immigration" on Monday, March 28 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the Lecture Hall at the High School.

In addition to YPAC representative Isaac Blustein-Gibbons, the forum will feature our State Representative Jonathan Hecht, a representative from the office of Representative Jeffrey Sanchez of Jamaica Plain, and a member of the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy (MIRA) Coalition. They will discuss the importance of the ELL education issue, and how the Language Opportunities for Our Kids (LOOK) Act (co-sponsored by Mr. Hecht) will address it. This issue and any potential solution to it have big ramifications for recent immigrants and native students alike, as language skills are becoming ever more important in a global economy and increasingly diverse America.
